DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES

Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal environmental regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Act as the subject matter expert on federal environmental requirements. Supervise the provision of technical assistance and training to subrecipients and consultants, as needed. Manage the evaluation of each property and their determination of site-specific environmental findings. Supervise Historic Preservation Specialist in their evaluation of compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Responsible for administrative planning for environmental compliance. Act as the liaison to federal agencies for all environmental activities. Confer with federal agencies and other states on best practices and recommend improvements. Assess new environmental guidance from federal agencies and keep Division informed of new administrative processes. Make recommendations for the implementation of new environmental procedures across the portfolio of federally-funded programs based on new laws, guidance, adequacy or efficiency. Advise senior staff regarding program and federal requirements, including but not limited to environmental and historic preservation.

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience. Seven (7) years of professional experience in planning, monitoring, coordinating, implementing, modifying, and/or evaluating agency programs and services. OR Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of the above-mentioned professional experience. OR Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university in a discipline appropriate to the position; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience. NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
